Disclosed is a solid formulation for oral administration as a solid, comprising: (a) 50-90% w/w polyethylene glycol (PEG) having an average molecular weight within the range 2,000 to 10,000 Da； and (b) 10-40 % w/w of a solid selected from the group consisting of sorbitol, lactose, dextrates, cellulose, xylitol, maltitol and mannitol. Also disclosed is a chewable or suckable solid formulation for oral administration as a solid for maintaining gastro-intestinal health and for preventing gastro-intestinal disorders, comprising: (a) 2.0 to 3.5g PEG having an average molecular weight of 3000 to 4000 Da； (b) 250 to 500mg of a solid selected from the group consisting of: sorbitol, lactose, dextrates, cellulose, xylitol, maltitol, and mannitol. Also disclosed is the use of a formulation as defined above, in the manufacture of a medicament for preventing dehydration of the stool, softening the stool for ease of defecation, preventing constipation, allowing regular gastrointestinal transit.
