There is provided herein an injection device, comprising:a housing adapted to receive a syringe having a discharge nozzle, the syringebeingmovable within the housing along a longitudinal axis from a retracted positionin which thedischarge nozzle is contained within the housing and an extended position inwhich thedischarge nozzle of the syringe extends from the housing through an exitaperture；an actuator；a drive adapted to be acted upon by the actuator an in turn act upon thesyringe toadvance it from its retracted position to its extended position and dischargeits contentsthrough the discharge nozzle；a syringe carrier adapted to support the syringe as it is advanced；a return spring that biases the syringe from the extended position to theretractedposition, wherein the return spring acts on the syringe via the syringecarrier； anda locking mechanism between the syringe carrier and the drive to inhibitmovementof the syringe carrier and syringe towards the exit aperture.
