Suggested are new compositions comprising ornithine ketoglutarate (OKG) and a cosmetically acceptable carrier. The compositions are used for influencing the metabolism of hair follicles and the modulation of their vital cycle, for treating disorders of hair follicles, for treating diseases of hair growth, for treating skin diseases or disorders mediated by hair follicle metabolism, in the preparation of artificial skin.
