PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MRI apparatus and an RF coil unit for the MRI apparatus where an upper RF coil is set and housed speedily and easily.SOLUTION: The RF coil unit 31 for the MRI apparatus 200 has: the upper RF coil 311 arranged over a patient 150 to irradiate the patient 150 with an RF pulse and to detect an MR signal a coil supporting part 312 which holds the upper RF coil 311 at a suitable distance over the patient and a lower RF coil 313 arranged between the patient 150 and a top plate 4 to irradiate the patient 150 with the RF pulse and to detect the MR signal.
