An inter-spinous process spacer device comprising:upper (180) and lower (182) end plates,at least one compressible core assembly extending between and interconnecting said upper and lower end plates, said compressible core assembly comprising a compressible core member (184) comprising one or more polymeric materials, and a plurality of fibers wound between and interconnecting said upper and lower end plates, wherein the compressible core assembly is configured to stabilize the spacing between the first spinous process and the second spinous process, to provide compressible resistance to compression, and to permit rotation, and to permit lateral bending, anda spacer (342) comprising one or more polymeric materials and including relatively wider side sections and a relatively narrower section, containing said upper and lower end plates and at least one compressible core assembly.
