There is provided a method of manufacturing a component for a wound dressing comprising the step of mechanically manipulating a yarn with a machine to form a discrete structure having a predetermined shape wherein the discrete structure is in a form suitable for incorporation into or for use as a wound dressing without changes to the dimensions of said discrete structure； components formed by the method of manufacturing the component, the use of the component in or as a wound dressing, and the use of the component or wound dressing in a method of treating a wound.
