An antimicrobial copolymer composition obtained by reacting an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer with at least one metal ion source to form an ionomer type antimicrobial polymer composition containing at least 5 mass-% of metal ions having antimicrobial properties. The composition has low molecular weight and high antimicrobial metal content. The material is concentrated into the melt phase interfaces during melt processing and onto the surfaces of the cooled polymer and gives enhanced antimicrobial metal release.La présente invention concerne une composition polymère obtenue par réaction dun copolymère dacide carboxylique à insaturation oléfinique avec au moins une source dions métalliques pour former une composition polymère antimicrobienne de type ionomère contenant au moins 5 % en masse dions métalliques ayant des propriétés antimicrobiennes. La composition a un faible poids moléculaire et une teneur en métal antimicrobien élevée. Le matériau est concentré dans les interfaces de phase de fusion pendant le traitement par fusion et sur les surfaces du polymère refroidi et produit une libération de métal antimicrobien améliorée.
