PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly adjust the brightness of a subject image with one sheet of a rotary shutter even in a normal observation and a background fluorescent observation.
SOLUTION: The one sheet of a rotary shutter 28 is arranged between a lamp and a light guide. In the case of simultaneous type normal observation, the rotary shutter 28 is positioned at a first position so that the opening part 60A and the light shielding part 60B of the rotary shutter 28 may pass through a light path sequentially, and is rotated in synchronization with one field period. Then, in order to keep the brightness of the subject image to be a proper value, the rotation phase of the rotary shutter 28 is shift-control. In the case of the background fluorescent observation, the rotary shutter 28 is positioned at a second position so that an opening part 62 and a light shielding part 63 may pass through the light path of a light flux LB sequentially. In the case of surface sequential type normal observation, the rotary shutter 28 is positioned at a third position so that opening parts 64R, 64G, 64B and a light shielding part 65 may pass through the light path sequentially.
