A retractable leash (1) comprises a container body (10) inside of which a spool (20) is mounted free to rotate about a rotation axis (120). Around the spool (20) is wound, in use, a leash (30) having a first end (30a) fixed to the spool (20) and a second end (30b) suitable to be engaged to a collar, or a harness, that is applied to a domestic animal, in particular a dog. The retractable leash (1), furthermore, provides a brake device (50) arranged to position the spool (20) in a braking configuration when the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the spool (20) exceeds a predetermined value. The brake device (50) comprises a stator body (51) integral to the container body (10) and provided with a projecting member (53). Furthermore, a rotor body (55) is provided, also this arranged coaxially to the spool (20), and arranged, in use, to be housed, free to rotate, within the stator body (51).
