A safety catheter includes a multi-lumen shaft. The shaft has a proximal shaft portion with a distal end having a given outer diameter and a distal tip portion having an outer diameter less than the given outer diameter. A hollow balloon is disposed at a junction of the proximal shaft portion and the distal tip portion. The balloon has a distal leg fixedly secured to the distal tip portion and a proximal leg removably secured to the proximal shaft portion.La présente invention a pour objet un cathéter de sûreté comprenant une tige à lumières multiples. La tige possède une partie tige proximale possédant une extrémité distale ayant un diamètre externe donné et une partie pointe distale ayant un diamètre externe inférieur au diamètre externe donné. Un ballon creux est disposé à une jonction de la partie tige proximale et de la partie pointe distale. Le ballon possède un pied distal fixé à demeure sur la partie pointe distale et un pied proximal fixé de manière amovible sur la partie tige proximale.
