PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic biomaterial which has excellent biocompatibility and mechanical characteristics and shows low magnetic susceptibility, and a medical device which is constituted of the metallic material and suppresses the occurrence of artifacts in a magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis.
SOLUTION: The metallic biomaterial includes Zirconium (Zr) as a main component of main transition metals of groups 4 to 6 (Titanium (Ti), Vanadium (V), Chromium (Cr), Zirconium (Zr), Niobium (Nb), Molybdenum (Mo), Hafnium (Hf), Tantalum (Ta), and Tungsten (W)) and 0.5-15 mass% of at least one kind of the transition metals of groups 4 to 6, excluding Zr, (Ti, V, Cr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, and W) as a sub-component of a content lower than that of the main component. When the content of the sub-component is within the range, the magnetic susceptibility of the metallic biomaterial is minimum.
