A peritoneal dialysis cycler (116, 216), comprising: a combined infusion and effluent line (128, 228) for delivering and receiving a peritoneal dialysate to and from a peritoneal cavity; at least one pump (118, 218) positioned in the combined infusion and effluent line; at least one sensor (106a-106h) fluidly connected to the combined infusion and effluent line, wherein the at least one sensor is selected from the group consisting of: a flow sensor, an ion selective electrode, a pH sensor, a pressure sensor, a refractive index sensor, a conductivity sensor, and a temperature sensor; and a peritoneal dialysate generation flow path (104, 204) fluidly connected to the combined infusion and effluent line; the peritoneal dialysate generation flow path comprising: a water source (108); a water purification module (110); a plurality of concentrate sources (112) fluidly connected to the peritoneal dialysate generation flow path, each of the plurality of concentrate sources being configured to supply a different solute for generating a peritoneal dialysis fluid; a computing device (120); a concentrate pump in communication with the computing device to control the movement of fluid from the plurality of concentrate sources into the peritoneal dialysate generation flow path; and at least one sensor positioned in the peritoneal dialysate generation flow path or combined infusion and effluent line, whereby the peritoneal dialysis cycler is configured to adjust the concentration of each said solute independently of all other solutes.
