The present invention relates to a composition and health food for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis comprising an extract of a medicinal herb mixture of Angelica gigas, Paeonia japonica, Atractylodes japonica, Wolfiporia extensa, Gardenia jasminoides, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Platycodon grandiflorum, Zingiber officinale and Mentha Canadensis, and specifically, to an extract of medicinal herb, which inhibits osteoporosis and increases bone formation in ovariectomized rats, wherein the composition containing the herbal medicine extract of the present invention can reliably improve symptoms of bone diseases without changing hormones, and thus can be usefully used for prevention and treatment of bone diseases by replacing existing therapeutic agents.본 발명은 당귀, 백작약, 백출, 복령, 치자, 감초, 길경, 건강 및 박하의 혼합 생약재 추출물을 포함하는 골질환 예방 및 치료용 조성물 및 건강식품에 관한것으로, 구체적으로 난소 절제 쥐에서 골다공증을 억제하고 골형성을 증가시키는 생약재 추출물에 관한 것이며, 본 발명의 생약재 추출물을 포함하는 조성물은 호르몬의 변화 없이 안전하게 골질환 증상을 호전시킬 수 있으므로 기존의 치료제를 대체하여 골질환 예방 빛 치료에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
