The preset invention relates to a method for treating asthma or allergic rhinitis, such as asthma or allergic rhinitis (AR). The method comprises administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a water soluble derivative of chitin (WSC), which is different from the traditional water soluble chitosan.
