A cooking apparatus includes first and second griddles, each having agenerally planar cookingsurface for cooking food. A first lifting mechanism is configured to elevatethe first griddle such that afood item on the cooking surface of the first griddle is predisposed to fallonto the cooking surface ofthe second griddle. A first wiper is configured to sweep the cooking surfaceof the first griddle tofacilitate detachment of any food item attached to the cooking surFace of thefirst griddle for transfersuch food item to the cooking surface of the second griddle. The first andsecond griddles, first liftingmechanism, and first wiper are interconnected preferably to form a portable,integrated cookingproduct. These components preferably are enclosed within a housing forpresenting a refined consumerproduct for use in a home kitchen and are arranged so as to define a compactvolume and footprint.
