A device 1 for insertion into a body cavity such as the vagina or rectum comprises an internally worn plug 2 having a pharmaceutically active composition, an externally wearable anchor element 3 and a sheath 4 joining the plug to the anchor. The sheath is suitable for receiving a wearers finger to assist insertion. The composition may be topically or systemically active and may comprise antifungal, antibacterial or anti-haemorrhoidal agents. The composition may be releasable in the presence of heat and/or liquid. The plug may comprise an absorbent material saturated with the composition. The plug may comprise a heat or liquid labile membrane. The device may include a cover removable before insertion. The anchor may be formed from an absorbent pad. The sheath may be flexible and may comprise impermeable and absorbent layers. The device may include a cord 9 for removing the plug from the cavity.
