A respiratory mask assembly comprising: a) a mask frame comprising at least one aperture and a first baffle portion provided adjacent the aperture, and b) an elbow assembly (160) comprising: 1) a first end portion (166) adapted to engage a gas delivery tube and 2) a second end portion (169) provided to the mask. The elbow assembly defines: i) an inlet port (162) to deliver incoming gas to a nasal breathing cavity defined by the mask assembly, and ii) an exhaust port (164) separated from the inlet port by at least a second baffle portion (161). The first and second baffle portions, when the elbow assembly is coupled to the mask frame, are configured to direct exhaust gas away from the nasal breathing cavity.
