A surgical support comprising a base 22 shaped to support part of a patients anatomy and a removable cover 24 adapted to fit over the base with a cushioning pad 34 on an outer surface which is arranged to be positioned between the patient and base 22 in use. The cover 24 may be a flexible sheet with a drawstring 26 and the pad 34 a combustion modified polyurethane visco-elastic foam. The base 22 may be moulded rubber foam with a flat underside. Also disclosed is a cover 24 on its own. The cover 24 is designed so that there is no need to dispose of the whole rest for safety and hygiene reasons. The device may be used as a head support.
