PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line of sight detection device and a line of sight detection method with which the state of detection can be efficiently grasped and efficiency in the entire fixation point measurement can be improved.SOLUTION: A line of sight detection device comprises a detection part, a determination part, and an output control part. The detection part detects a first area indicating a pupil from an image of the eye of a subject. The determination part determines the state of detection of the first area on the basis of circularity of the first area.
