Disclosed is a method for processing sorted sperm cells compromised by a sorting event comprising the steps of: subjecting a plurality of sperm cells to sorting stresses; selecting said plurality of sperm cells for a desired characteristic; providing a protein-free sperm cell extender; providing a protein-free cryoprotectant-containing sperm cell extender; combining said protein-free sperm cell extender and said protein-free cryoprotectant-containing sperm cell extender to form a cryoprotectant- containing centrifugation medium; maintaining said cryoprotectant-containing centrifugation medium in an unclarified state; adding said plurality of sperm cells subjected to soiling stresses and selected for a desired characteristic to said unclarified cryoprotectant- containing centrifugation medium to form an unclarified cryoprotectant- containing sperm cell centrifugation medium; subjecting said unclarified cryoprotectant-containing sperm cell centrifugation medium to centrifugation; and decanting a portion of said centrifuged unclarified cryoprotectant- containing sperm cell centrifugation medium.
