PURPOSE: A composition containing modafinil or a derivative thereof for treating K_Ca3.1 channel-mediated diseases is provided to increase intracellular cAMP concentration, and to be used a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating diseases such as cancer and atherosclerosis by phosphorylation of K_Ca3.1 channel.CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating K_Ca3.1 channel-mediated diseases contains modefinil derivative compounds, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The K_Ca3.1 channel-mediated diseases are selected from the group consisting of sickle cell anemia immune diseases including acute immune response or autoimmune diseases vascular diseases including restenosis or atherosclerosis brain diseases including traumatic brain injury, cerebral ischemia, or neurodegenerative diseases cancer diseases including prostate cancer or pancreatic cancer and secretory diarrhea. The composition additionally contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
