The present invention relates to novel nitrile derivatives of pyrimido [6,1-A] isoquinolin-4-one compounds of formula (A). The invention further relates to a process for the preparation of the compound of formula (A). The present invention also relates to a process comprising reducing the compound of formula (A). The compounds of the present invention are useful for the preparation of compounds such as RPL554.
