reduced sulfur flavoring oils and their use in oral care compositions. The present invention relates to flavoring oils which include flavors of mint, fruits and spices which are specially processed to eliminate low molecular weight sulfur compounds, in particular dimethyl sulfoxide (dmso), which has been considered to be the main pre-condition. cursor of unpleasant odor species such as dimethyl sulfide and methyl mercaptan. These unpleasant odor species are produced by oxidation reactions involving the sulfur-containing compounds present in the flavoring oils. A preferred method of processing is aqueous rinsing, which has the advantages of being simple, inexpensive and easy to implement while avoiding typical process problems including unselective removal of desirable components and submission of the same. flavoring oils under extreme conditions that can destroy other components and result in undesirable changes in taste and odor characteristics. Other processing methods for selective removal of unwanted components include: (1) distillation for removal of low boiling polar components, (2) filtration through selective adsorption of sulfur compounds, (3) countercurrent extraction and ( 4) column chromatography. processing methods may optionally be followed by reengineering to read the desired components that may have been removed or altered during processing.
