A system and method for supporting a user's arm using a harness configured to be worn on the user's body and an arm support coupled to the harness configured to support the user's arm is provided. The arm support is configured to conform to the movement of the arm while following the movement without substantially hindering the movement of the user's arm. One or more compensation elements are coupled to the arm support to offset at least a portion of gravity acting on the arm when the user moves and the arm support follows the movement of the user's arm. Applying force, the one or more compensation elements provide a force distribution that changes the offset force based on the orientation of the arm support.
