PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel comprising a level winding device with which fishing line is prevented from releasing from pressing (the fishing line is removed from a narrow groove part on a fishing line guide) caused by high tension in the fishing line while the fishing line is wound under high load and winding and releasing of the fishing line are carried out in the best condition without causing reduction in frame strength, increment in cost, damage in the fishing line guide and working error in a clutch.SOLUTION: A fishing reel of the present invention comprises a level winding device 50 comprising a fishing line guide 60 reciprocating between right and left side plates. The fishing line guide 60 is supported rotatably in forth and back direction between a fishing line winding mode and a fishing line releasing mode. The fishing line guide 60 comprises an opening part 68 having a broad opening in right and left direction on which the fishing line S is positioned in the fishing line releasing mode, and a fishing line guide 67 having a narrow shape in right and left direction on which the fishing line S is positioned in the fishing line winding mode.
