Image guiding device for tracking surgical instruments in the oral cavity. The imaging device includes a plurality of cameras positioned within the mouth to provide an intra-oral image of an optically visible pattern in the mouth. The processing system receives and processes the intraoral images to recognize the pattern and triangulate the position and orientation of each camera. The treatment system uses a set of reference data defining a reference coordinate system based on an alignment to a portion of the anatomical structure of the oral cavity. The processing system determines the position and orientation of the tracked instrument based on the reference data set.
