The present invention relates to a preservative containing caprylic/capric glyceride, and to a skin external application composition including the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to a preservative, and to a skin external application composition including the same, wherein the preservative comprises: caprylic/capric glyceride and two or more materials selected from the group consisting of glycerylcaprylate, p-anisic acid, and citrus mixed extracts. The preservative according to the present invention has less skin irritation than a conventional chemical preservative, and has an antibacterial effect which is equal to or higher than the effect of a conventional chemical preservative.
