Disclosed is a peptide consisting of a peptide sequence of 7 to 14 contiguous amino acid residues derived from IL-1 receptor antagonist protein (IL1RA), said peptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 (SGRKSSKMQA), or consisting of a fragment of 7 to 9 consecutive amino acids of SEQ ID NO:1, or comprising a variant of SEQ ID NO:1 having at least 75% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:1, or consisting of a variant of a fragment of SEQ ID NO:1, said variant consisting of an amino acid sequence of 7 to 9 consecutive amino acids of SEQ ID NO:1 having at least 75% sequence identity to any one of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein said peptide binds to IL-1 receptor type 1 (IL1RI), and interferes with the binding of IL-1 beta to IL1RI.
