Plant pots of a heat-sealable plastics material are each made with a gusset in the bottom and an open top in a continuous strip with the open tops along one side of the strip and the bottoms along the other side of the strip by means of transverse welds. Preferably the welds are inclined so that the tops of the pots are smaller than the bottoms and tear lines provided between pots. The welds terminate in projections extending above the top side of the strip. The pots may be made from a double gusseted layflat tube which is divided longitudinally into two strips of pots. Plants can be potted by drawing a strip of pots through stations wherein the sides of the pots are separated, growing medium inserted, and then the plants are inserted either automatically, mechanically, manually or a combination of those ways.
