An oil-based, semi-liquid composition (I) for coating meat products comprises: (a) an oil (or mixture of oils) having m.pt. 15-25[deg]C and present in hardened form at temperatures below 0[deg]C; and (b) one or more further marinading additives. Independent claims are included for: (A) a method for coating preformed, flat meat products, involving applying (I) to one side of the product; (B) a method for producing and storing deep-frozen meat products, involving applying (I) to one side of a preformed meat product, freezing the product and placing the coated, deep frozen product in a suitable container; and (C) apparatus for carrying out the methods, comprising a storage container for (I), having one or more opening in the base through which (I) can flow out; a first roller, located below the container, which takes up (I) after flowing out of the container and transfers (I) onto a second roller located below the first; and the second roller, for further transferring (I) onto the meat product.
