An object of the present invention relates to a system of lateral harvesting of fruit trees by means of modular mechanical vareo, comprising a support platform (1), to which a column (6) is anchored, which, as a frame, supports a plurality of shaker modules (7), orientable with respect to said column (6). Advantageously, said shaker modules comprise: at least one connecting arm (15) between the column (6) and the shaker module (7)； pivoting means (16) for rotating or articulating the arm (15) of each shaker module (7) with respect to the column (6)； at least two rotatable shaking drums (11) from which a plurality of rods (9) starts, said drums (11) being equipped with motor means (12) configured to shake or vibrate the rods (1), generating a movement of vareo. The invention also relates to a harvesting method that comprises the use of said system.Sistema y método de cosecha lateral de árboles frutales mediante vareo mecánico modular. Un objeto de la presente invención se refiere a un sistema de cosechado lateral de árboles frutales mediante vareo mecánico modular, que comprende una plataforma (1) de soporte, a la que se ancla una columna (6) que, a modo de bastidor, soporta una pluralidad de módulos sacudidores (7), orientables respecto de dicha columna (6). Ventajosamente, dichos módulos sacudidores comprenden: al menos un brazo (15) de conexión entre la columna (6) y el módulo sacudidor (7)； medios (16) pivotantes de rotación o articulación del brazo (15) de cada módulo sacudidor (7) respecto de la columna (6)； al menos dos tambores (11) de sacudida rotables de los que parte una pluralidad de varas (9), estando equipados dichos tambores (11) con medios motores (12) configurados para sacudir o hacer vibrar las varas (1), generando un movimiento de vareo. La invención se refiere, asimismo, a un método de cosechado que comprende el uso del citado sistema.
