A vehicle, particularly a hearse, is provided with a load support deck 40, typically for carrying a coffin, and a longitudinal partition barrier 70, typically comprising an upstanding fence on an edge, located between the deck and a driver. The deck has predefined features 44, for example a pattern or a bevelled edge in a rear portion, so as to collapse when resisted by the barrier. The vehicle also has side impact protection in the form of a longitudinal beam 43 attached to the vehicle structure at three points, for example to a base of a B-pillar.
