A surgical stapling apparatus is provided. The surgical stapling apparatusincludes anactuating device including an elongated shaft. A tool assembly is disposed ona distal end of theshaft. The tool assembly includes a first jaw member supporting a cartridgeassembly having aplurality of surgical fasteners, and a second jaw member supporting an anvil.The first jawmember is movable in relation to the second jaw member between a spacedposition and anapproximated position. One of the first and second jaw members includes acantilever at aproximal end thereof. A firing cam bar assembly is slidably disposed withinthe tool assemblyand includes a cam surface configured to engage the cantilever to move thefirst and second jawmember towards the approximated position and a distal end configured to deploythe plurality ofsurgical fasteners from the cartridge assembly.
