An endoscope configured to be carried with a hand is characterized by comprising an insertion portion (34) extending in a longitudinally axial direction and including a distal end portion and a proximal end portion, and an operation portion (38) coaxially connected to the proximal end portion of the insertion portion (34) and extending in the longitudinally axial direction, the insertion portion (34) includes a bending portion (36) configured to be actuated to be bent, the operation portion (38) includes an axially directional grasp portion (40) extending in the longitudinally axial direction and configured to be grasped by an operator, a bending operation portion (46) provided on a more proximal end side than the axially directional grasp portion (40) and configured to operate the bending portion (36) to be bent, and a widely directional grasp portion (53) provided on a more proximal end side than the bending operation portion (46) and configured to be grasped by an operator wherein at least a part of the bending operation portion (46) is located within a widely directional length of the widely directional grasp portion (53) with respect to a wide direction orthogonal to the longitudinally axial direction, and the widely directional grasp portion (53) includes a grasp part (53a, 53b) protruding farther toward one widely directional side than the bending operation portion (46).
