PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic agent for tumors which enables early discovery, monitoring of therapeutic effects and prognostic diagnosis with respect to all tumors.SOLUTION: The diagnostic agent for tumors contains a &delta-aminolevulinic acid represented by general formula (I): R2R1NCH2COCH2CH2COR3 (I), [R1 and R2 each independently represent hydrogen atom, alkyl, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryl or aralkyl and R3 represents hydroxy, alkoxy, acyloxy, alkoxycarbonyloxy, aryloxy, aralkyloxy or amino], a derivative of the acid, or a salt of either.
