Provided is a coating composition that is characterized by comprising a water-insoluble powder such as starch and/or a water-soluble polymer such as dextrin as a base component, and locust bean gum and/or xanthan gum as a gelling agent. This coating composition enables a novel coating composition to be obtained which can favorably form a coating without using carrageenan, has favorable properties that enable the coating composition to substitute traditional coatings that use a gelatin coating or carrageenan, and comprises a plant-derived base.本發明提供一種皮膜組成物，其特徵係含有作為基劑成分之澱粉等之水不溶性粉末及/或糊精等之水溶性聚合物，及作為凝膠化劑之刺槐豆膠(locust bean gum)及/或黃原膠(xanthan gum)而成。依據該皮膜組成物，具有不使用卡拉膠(carrageenan)仍可良好成膜，可替代明膠皮膜或使用卡拉膠之以往皮膜的良好性能之由源自植物之基劑所成之新穎皮膜組成物。
