A method of, and apparatus for, arthroplasty of a knee joint comprising obtaining a desired spacing of the femur (6) from the tibia (14) by inserting a spacer (28) into the knee joint between the femur (6) and the tibia (14). The spacer (28) is used as a reference for securing a guide jig in position about the knee joint for guiding resection of one or both of the femur (6) and tibia (14) for fitting of tibial and/or femoral prostheses. A method of resecting the femur while moving the tibia through an arc of motion to remove bone to the desired depth, a method of determining the position of the guide jig, the guide jig, an alignment device and the spacer are also described.La présente invention concerne un procédé darthroplastie dune articulation du genou et un appareil à cet effet. Lintervention vise à réaliser un écartement spécifique entre le fémur (6) et le tibia (14) par linsertion dune cale despacement (28) dans larticulation entre le fémur (6) et le tibia (14). Cette cale despacement (28) fournit une référence pour la fixation en position dun gabarit guide autour de larticulation du genou de façon à guider la résection de lun au moins du fémur (6) et du tibia (14) dans le cadre de ladaptation de prothèses tibiales et/ou fémorales. Linvention concerne également, dune part un procédé de résection du fémur en faisant décrire au tibia un mouvement en arc de façon à dégager los jusquà la profondeur voulue, dautre part un procédé de calcul de la position du gabarit guide, mais aussi le gabarit guide lui-même, et enfin la cale despacement.
