PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical algal reef capable of securing a larger substantial growing area of algae per unit area of a seaweed bed.SOLUTION: The vertical algal reef 1A is configured in such a manner that a plurality of pipes 2 (2A, 2B, 2C) is disposed on a floor panel 3 in an erected state, light and sea water are allowed to enter the inside of the pipes (2A, 2B, 2C) through opening portions 2k at the top ends of the pipes 2 (2A, 2B, 2C). With this configuration, since items that are erected are the pipes 2 (2A, 2B, 2C), a larger substantial growing area of algae per unit area of a seaweed bed can be secured compared to a case where columnar bodies whose inside portions are stuffed are erected.
