The present invention relates to a motor driven clamping and cutting surgical instrument comprising an end effector, an axis connected to the end effector and a handle attached to an axis. the end effector may comprise a cutting instrument which, when actuated, longitudinally traverses the end effector to cut tissue trapped in the end effector. The handle may comprise an electric motor for actuation of the cutting instrument and a motor control circuit for motor control. The motor control circuit may comprise a power supply connected to the motor to electrically drive the motor and a current control circuit connected to the power supply for varying the current supplied from the power supply to the motor.
