The implantable electro acupuncture (EA) device provides a stimulation pulse 219 applied to a particular blood or other target tissue site for treatment of a particular disease. In a preferred embodiment, the EA apparatus having at least two electrodes 110, 120 attached to the outer surface of the housing 122, 124 of the EA apparatus is portable, thin, coin-sized, self- (Leadless, Figure 1). The EA device generates a stimulation pulse according to a specific stimulation therapy (Figs. 15A, 15B). The power management circuitry 200, 210 in the device allows a thin coin-cell primary battery 215 with high internal impedance to be used to power the device. Stimulation therapy produces stimulus pulses with an amplitude of up to 25 mA during the stimulation session of the T3-minute period applied every T4 minutes. The duty cycle or ratio T3 / T4 is very low and not greater than 0.05.
