599393 A device for both driving and extracting a post such as a wooden stake, metal standard or picket is disclosed. The device comprises a hollow barrel (1) with a closed end and an open end for receiving the post. Two longitudinal handles (2A, 2B) extend along the barrel (1) and at least one of the handles (2B) is pivotally fixed at the closed end and releasably secured with a fastener (6) at the other end. The pivotally fixed handle (2B) is used to facilitate driving of the post or can be released to act as a lever for extracting the post. Methods of driving and extracting a post using the device are also disclosed.
