PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tomographic image generation apparatus having a reduced time required to complete a photoacoustic signal and an ultrasonic signal.SOLUTION: A trigger control circuit 28 outputs a light trigger signal to irradiate a subject with light. A sampling control circuit 29 outputs a sampling trigger signal. An AD conversion unit 22 starts sampling of the photoacoustic signal and stores data of the sampled photoacoustic signal in a reception memory 23. While the AD conversion unit 22 continues sampling, the trigger control circuit 28 outputs an ultrasonic trigger signal and transmits an ultrasonic wave to the subject. The AD conversion unit 22 samples a reflected acoustic signal following the sampling of the photoacoustic signal, and stores data of the sampled reflected acoustic signal in the reception memory 23.
