PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel natural-origin antioxidant having antioxidant function excellent enough to scavenge active oxygen.
SOLUTION: A compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R is a methyl group or an ethyl group) is disclosed. Further, an antioxidant or active oxygen scavenger containing the compound as an active ingredient and a cosmetic (e.g., a perfume composition or a skin aging preventive cosmetic) or food and drink containing the antioxidant or the active oxygen scavenger are also disclosed.
