PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device that performs one or more functions in gastrointestinal tract of a patient, and to provide a method and system.SOLUTION: The device includes an anchoring member and at least one actuator, sensor, or combination of both coupled with the anchoring device 46. The anchoring device 46 is adapted to maintain at least part of the device 46 within a pyloric portion of the patients stomach 74 and to intermittently engage, without directly attaching to, stomach tissue. Actuators perform any suitable function, such as transmitting energy to the tissue, acting as a sleeve to reduce nutrient absorption, occupying space in the stomach 74, eluting a drug and/or the like.
