An electrosurgical instrument includes jaws (102, 104) having an electrode configuration (103a, 103b, 105b) utilized to electrically modify tissue in contact with one or more electrodes. The instrument is removably connectable to an electrosurgical unit via an electrosurgical connector extending from the instrument and a receptacle on the electrosurgical unit. The electrosurgical instrument is rotatable without disrupting the electrical connection to the electrodes of the jaws. One or more of the electrodes is retractable. The electrosurgical unit and instrument optimally seals and/or cuts tissue based on identifying the tissue and monitoring the modification of the tissue by the application of radio frequency energy.Cette invention concerne un instrument électrochirurgical comportant des électrodes (103a, 103b, 105b) en forme de mâchoires (102, 104) utilisées pour modifier électriquement le tissu en contact avec elles. Linstrument peut être connecté de manière amovible à une unité électrochirurgicale par le biais dun raccord partant de linstrument et dun réceptacle présent sur lunité électrochirurgicale. Linstrument électrochirurgical peut pivoter sans interrompre la connexion électrique avec les électrodes-mâchoires. Lune des électrodes au moins est rétractable. Lunité électrochirurgicale et linstrument circonscrivent de manière optimale le tissu et/ou le découpent daprès les données didentification tissulaire et la surveillance des modifications tissulaires par application de lénergie radiofréquence.
