Disclosed is a bale assembly for controlling the movement of at least one portion of an animal for easier assessment and treatment of the animal. The bale assembly comprises at least one movable member for restricting the movement of the at least one portion of the animal, a shaft for transmitting an input force directly or indirectly to the at least one movable member, and a clutch for restricting the movement of the shaft. The clutch has a casing, a bracing member, and movement restricting means. When in an active condition, the input force is applied to the shaft to overcome resistance of the bracing member and the movement restricting means to enable movement of the shaft, and thereby enable movement of the at least one movable member. In an inactive condition, the force is removed from the shaft, and the movement restricting means abut the bracing member, which in turn abuts the casing to prevent further movement of the shaft, and thereby prevents movement of the at least one movable member by the animal.
