The present invention relates to a composition for improving skin appearance and, more specifically, to a cosmetic composition for improving skin appearance including extracts from red ginseng or purified substance for decomposing enzyme from organic solvent extracts as active ingredients. The red ginseng extract or the purified substance for decomposing enzyme from organic solvent extracts can be used as an active ingredient for improving skin appearance by inhibiting the activity of 5-lipoxygenase and the generation of nitrogen monoxide, wherein the 5-lipoxygenase is an enzyme involved in inflammatory or allergic reactions that cause pigmentation or reduction of skin elasticity.본 발명은 피부 외관 개선용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 홍삼의 물 또는 유기용매 추출물의 효소분해 정제물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 피부 외관 개선용 화장료 조성물에 관한 것이다. 상기 홍삼의 물 또는 유기용매 추출물의 효소분해 정제물은 피부의 색소 침착 혹은 탄력 저하의 원인이 되는 염증 반응이나 알레르기 반응에 관여하는 효소인 5-리폭시게나아제의 활성을 억제하고, 일산화질소의 발생을 억제함으로써 피부 외관을 개선시켜주는 유효성분으로써 유용하게 사용할 수 있다.
