Disclosed are anti-viral compounds of formula (I), wherein the substituents are disclosed within the specification, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, solvates and prodrugs thereof. Examples of disclosed compounds of formula (I) include: Beta-2-methyl-adenosine 5 -O-[ a-naphthyl( ethoxy-L-alaninyl)] phosphate and Beta-2-methyl-guanosine 5 -O-[phenyl(methoxy-L-alaninyl)] phosphate. Further disclosed is a process for the preparation of a compound of formula (I), a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (I), and a method of preparing said pharmaceutical composition. Also disclosed is the use of a compound of formula (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for the prophylaxis or treatment of hepatitis C virus.
