A method of manufacturing a customized orthodontic bracket comprising a bracket base for attaching a bracket (20) to a patient's teeth (200), a bracket body with a bracket head, and an archwire slot. In accordance with the method, a three-dimensional dental model is provided that displays the shape of at least a portion of the patient's teeth. A bracket receiving area is determined on the tooth model, and the bracket base comprises a dental surface shaped according to the shape of the bracket receiving area. Further, the outer shape of the bracket head is determined on the tooth model, and the bracket head includes a bracket head surface (26a, 26a ') shaped according to a shape within the range of the bracket head outer shape. Thus, a bracket is provided having an outer tongue contact surface or cheek contact surface that is shaped to match the natural shape of the tooth to which the bracket is attached.
