Present invention gives simple, highly efficient method for the oxidation of sulfide compounds. Various sulfides were selectively and completely converted into their corresponding sulfoxides and sulfones using ZnCb-Urea with H2O2 in presence of acetonitrile as a solvent at 25-90 °C temperature for 0.5-24 h. This method offers selective oxidation to sulfoxide and sulfone. Recovery and recycling of ZnCb-Urea was achieved in this protocol. This synthetic method is environmentally clean and safe, operationally simple for the oxidation of sulfide compounds.
